Commercial, corporate and branded projects
Many productions shooting in New Jersey are commercials, corporate videos, product pieces, interviews or social campaigns rather than feature films. The sections above are organized by service; these are organized by the kind of project you are making.
- Commercials and paid-media spots
- Corporate and internal communications video
- Branded content and social-first campaigns
- Executive interviews and customer stories
- Product, demonstration and explainer video
- Conference, summit and event coverage
- Recruitment and culture films
- Multi-site shoots across several New Jersey locations
How commercial and corporate shoots usually differ from film work
The difference is rarely creative. It is usually scale, speed and who you end up dealing with. These are common patterns rather than rules, and any given project can sit anywhere on the scale.
| Larger film and television productions | Smaller commercial and corporate shoots | |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule | Often planned over weeks or months, with scouting well in advance | Typically one to three days, and may be booked inside two weeks |
| Municipal contact | Often a named film liaison, or a town used to handling productions | May be the Borough Clerk, for whom a shoot can be an unusual request |
| Footprint | Often includes base camp, trucks, holding and catering | Typically a van or two, and may involve nothing on the street at all |
| What triggers a permit | Usually assumed from the start | Often depends on whether public property, parking or equipment placement is involved |
| Insurance | Typically covered by a production policy already in place | May need to be arranged for the specific shoot, sometimes naming the town |
| Tax credit | Frequently central to the finance plan | Most standalone commercial and corporate projects do not fit the program’s eligible-film definition. Confirm eligibility with NJEDA before budgeting around an incentive. |
The last two rows tend to cause the most trouble. A marketing team that has shot in a studio for years can be surprised when a New Jersey borough asks for a certificate of insurance naming it as additional insured, ten days before a half-day interview. Check the permit finder for the town before you assume either way.
Bringing an existing creative concept into New Jersey
A lot of the work here arrives already designed. An agency or in-house team has the concept, the boards and the client approvals, and needs the shoot to happen in New Jersey without flying a full crew in.
That normally means some combination of the following, and you do not have to take all of it:
- Scouting and clearing locations against your boards
- Working out which municipalities are involved and what each requires
- Filing permits and handling the insurance certificates towns ask for
- Building a local crew to the size and departments the job needs
- Sourcing camera, lighting, grip and sound packages
- Running the shoot day, or supporting your director and producer on it
- Post-production and versioned deliverables
If you already have a producer and just need a crew and gear, that is a smaller conversation and a smaller number. Say so and we will scope it that way.
